At VAKY Swimwear, we believe that true sustainability can only exist alongside true transparency – both in our supply chain and our pricing. You deserve to know exactly what you're paying for so you can fully understand the value of each piece.
That’s why we’ve made the conscious decision to be open – about where our materials come from, how we produce, and how we price. We believe this should be the new standard in the fashion industry, and we hope other brands follow.
What Makes Up Our Prices?
Honest. Fair. Transparent.
In a world where many brands use "sustainability" as a buzzword, we want to show you what really goes into our pricing – so you can make informed and conscious decisions about what you buy.
Our prices are made up of five fairly calculated components:
| Materials | We use only high-quality, sustainable fabrics from Italy, such as ECONYL® – a regenerated nylon made from industrial waste and recovered fishing nets. This also includes items like lining fabrics and elastic bands. Some styles have higher material costs due to special finishes or more fabric use, while others are more minimal in design and material. |
| Production & Development |
All our garments are made under fair working conditions in a family-run factory in Portugal. This price component includes not only the actual production of the garment, but also the pattern development, fit refinement and sample creation – all of which also take place in Portugal. We work closely with our partners to ensure every piece fits beautifully, is durable, and meets our quality standards – for swimwear you’ll love wearing for seasons to come. |
| Logistics |
Logistics covers all the costs of transporting our pieces from Portugal to Germany, as well as customs fees, warehouse costs, and sustainable packaging. We aim to keep our environmental footprint as low as possible throughout the entire process. |

We apply a fair and below-industry-average markup to cover essential company costs and allow us to reinvest in future collections. This includes:
A large part of these costs are incurred long before a product is available for sale – our swimwear is the result of thoughtful planning, real craftsmanship, and ongoing commitment. |
| Tax | We pay the legally required VAT (value-added tax) on every item sold. For our transparent pricing overview, we calculate using the German VAT rate of 19%, which is already included in the final price shown. |
Why Is Fair Swimwear More Expensive Than Fast Fashion?
Fast fashion brands often produce at extremely low costs and apply markups that are 4 to 5 times the production cost. A bikini sold for €40 may have cost as little as €8 – or even less – to make. That leaves almost nothing for fair wages or quality materials.

Our pricing ensures that every person along our supply chain is paid fairly, and that we use only high-quality, sustainable materials – giving you a product made to last.
